eCommerce Software Service

Challenge:

Design an eCommerce software service that is a Shopify competitor. Focus on the easy of use and set up, shopping cart capabilities and the security of the software.

Process:

I went through separate iterations (show in detail below) of this project to obtain the right flow and design. There was a complete change in color scheme and illustrations from the beginning to the end. Also, attention was given to clean up the overall structure, layout and contrast of the design. Revisiting the basics of design principals is what set this project on the path to success.

initial design draft

This is a sample shot of what the initial design looked like. There were many things that needed to be addressed and improved.

The buttons throughout the design were not consistent in size or padding. The border radius needed to be more subtle as well.

The illustrations were weak and the color scheme was not strong enough. This created visual contrast issues as a result.

Overall, the layout and basic flow did not feel intentional or polished.

ITERATION

In this round of iteration, I addressed the poor illustrations and color scheme by introducing this bolder, cleaner color palette of blues, grey and purple.

I also cleaned up the layout, keeping things more visually in line from the top of the page to the bottom. Contrast was increased as well to improve visibility.

Even though it was an improvement upon the initial design, it still needed more work.

My CTA buttons needed to be more prominent (increased padding and different accent color) and the top navigation bar needed to be reworked a bit.

Additionally, there were some issues with the white on white cards and buttons, as well as shadowing, that just wasn’t working visually.

Increasing some of the illustrations to bleed into the margins and adding some bits of color blocking should take the design up to the next level.

FINAL DESIGN

This eCommerce design platform now has a clean, cohesive look with pops of color in all the right places. It is a timeless design that can be reworked to achieve multiple desired affects.
